Instructions to use the Course Grade App
The button opens up a Math Studio window in your browser. You may need to click it twice to work.
When the button works, you see boxes and sliders under the boxes:
- The boxes are called Syllabus Curve, Total Grade, Grade 1, and Grade 2. The numbers in these boxes change when you move the sliders.
- The sliders are used to enter the grades for Homework, Webwork Quizzes, Recitation Quizzes, Labs, Lab Exam, Self Assessments, Midterm Exam 1, Midterm Exam 2, and Final Exam.
You need to compute your percent in all these fields. You can get the data from the grades page in the top menu. If the formula for the course grade says, for example, that the lowest quiz score is dropped, you need to drop that score from your calculation.
Once you have computed your percent in each of the fields above, you need to use the sliders to input your percent in all these fields.
Then you have one slider left—the Final Exam slider—and you can set it to any number in the interval [0,100]. For each value set on the Final Exam slider you get both your grade according to the syllabus—in the box Syllabus Curve—and your total grade percent—in the box Total Grade. This Total Grade is the maximum of Grade 1 and Grade 2 displayed in the other boxes.
Now, this is how you could use this App:
- You can compute your minimum grade possible in the class, by setting the Final Exam slider to 0.
- You can also find the maximum grade possible in the class by setting the Final Exam slider to 100.
- You can also find your likely grade in the class by setting the Final Exam slider to whatever you expect to get in the final exam.
